REFLECTIONS

My favorite personal tool or the one that I would like to learn to use with my students is "Google docs" I think it will good to start and activity or project and work it on the internet with feed back and corection to finish product, and not use paper. I feel this will be a 21 century activity that will also be green or ecofriendly.

After some times of frustration and after I found out what was the difference between a "Voki" and a "Wiki" things became normal. I need to learn the technology of today and it requires time, patience and support. The 11 tools provided the support, more training that I will need to take will provide better support which in turn will cut down on the time I may need to learn a certain application of technology to the classroom.
To look at the beatiful blogs posted by other teachers showed me what could be possible and that it is not too far for me.
When I can bring this technology to the classroom my students will benefits and so will I. Topics may be presented with more color, faster and easier that before, giving the students more time to interact.
As I was, the students will be surprised by the great number of resources available in all subjects. The new way we could work in the classroom, and the many options at our fingertips.

Tool # 11

Digital citizenship

When we use the internet we are going out into the big wide world. In the internet we will find the good, the bad, and the ugly. We will also find the useless or information without reference, support or value.

We must be responsible in how we use the internet. Safety first and best way to be safe is never to give any personal information. The school filters the internet and a way to be safe is to stay on the websites allowed by the school and used by your teachers. At home we need to be more careful and parental consent and supervision are needed.

It is our responsibilty to become literal or efficient on the use of many websites. It is also important to differenciate one that is worth spending time on, and the so many that may not.

When working on the internet we need have rules of decorum, you may have 2 billion persons looking at what you wrote. Let us not publish any think we may have to defend or may be offensive to others.

We must always use appropiate language and need to be consious of other's sensitivity.

Tool # 10

itouches, iPhones, and iPods are new devices I am not familiar with. When the class used them last year in the library children were very happy to have them and did not have any problem using them.
The fact that they are small makes them friendly and since children already play with other small devices they were at ease with them. These devices will make a great work station. I think they are also great for improving fine motor skills.

Children will enjoy playing the instructional games offer with these devices and will easily move to content applications and all that the internet has to offer.

Tool # 9

Screencast will allow us to do something similar to a power point presentation using on line resources with the addition of notes. With the benefits we can capture screens from our desktop. It is also similar to the photo option we used on the active board.

Skype is a program I used to keep in touch with my family when out of the country. It is better than making a phone call because of the cost and the visual image. It is the closer version of the science fiction of Dick Tracy's time.

The training also takes us to 50 awesome ways to use Skype in the classroom, I will need more time to explore these.

The following link is to a video I found on Blinkx but it is originally from TeacherTube. It relates to Sojourner Truth.

http://www.blinkx.com/watch-video/great-women-in-history-sojourner-truth/qNviWRuX0sjY8Z1Hk076Tw

The video I posted as a separate post comes from youtube and it is the "I have a Dream" speech by Martin Luther King Jr.

These two videos along with the knowledge of video streaming will be very useful for social studies amongst other subjects in my class.

Tool # 7

Out of about 800 photos I picked 15 to tell a short story. I think it worked out very well, it is like a summary of my trip. Thanks to digital storytelling I can share it fast without boring too many people.

Digital storytelling will create a fast way to review topics in my classroom.

Tool # 6

Before this training the only wiki I had used was Wikipedia, and even then I didn't know what a "wiki" was. Now I know that a wiki is an interactive source of information created by many people. Thanks to the SBISD 21st Century Learner Wiki , I found a wiki created by a 2nd grade class in a Californian elementary school.

http://mrsibrahim.wikispaces.com/

This wiki shows me what other second graders can do with technology. From this wiki I see that students get great satisfaction from having their work published on the net. I find it very instructional for other teachers to share their work so we can learn from them and follow their steps as we create our own classroom wikis.

Tool # 5

I opened a Diigo account and did the required bookmarks and joined the group "Teachers without borders".

Two of the websites I discovered and bookmarked are:

http://science.pppst.com/simplemachines.html
http://www.kids.gov/k_5/k_5_social.shtml

to find these sites I used tags such as "simple machines" and "kids history".

Social bookmarking will be useful in my classroom to simplify the finding of information and going straight to a certain topic.

Tool # 4

Now that I've learned how to use these tools it would be interesting to have a document created and corrected by the entire class. I posted a document in "Google Docs" and sent it to two people.

I went to "Google Reader" and subscribed to multiple feeds as I've learned they're called. I hope time will make me better and faster with the 11 tools.

A few of the sites I used as feeds for "Google Reader" are:

uschess.org
discoveryeducation.com
nytimes.com
this blog, and the 11 tools themselves.

Tool #3

In this part I used two images, download one to Imagechef and the other to Wordle to create the images posted. Yes I have to spend more time to become familiar with the so many web sites we can use in class.

TOOL # 2

I like the idea of 2 billion learners and teachers working together. I am glad that thanks to this training I am on the way to become one of them.

Tool #1

I started my Gmail account, created a blog, and made an avatar. For my avatar I went to the Voki website and created a dog named Ike who is a character from one of the books we've read in class. I use this character throughout the year for multiple examples in different class subjects. Incorporating him into my blog will broaden his uses. This concludes tool 1.
